On Saturday, February 22nd, the first 2025 RIG trip was hosted by the Lac du Bonnet Medical Group and the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby!  The day was led by Dr. Selena Papetti and her group including Dr. Jennifer Setlack, and Tricia and Crystal, Admin personnel at the practice. 

The Rural Interest Group is a mix of Medical Students in Year 1 and Year 2 of Medical school.  This year, themselves along with guests attended the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby accommodated by the Lac du Bonnet Medical Group.  Students arrived by bus from the city and were greeted by Trish, Crystal , Dr. Setlack and of course Dr. Papetti,  to start off with some breakfast bites and refreshments.  Once the start time of 1130 neared they headed down to the town dock to get set up for a day of ice fishing and competition!   Back and forth from the ice to the clinic, they were able to enjoy hot meals, snacks, refreshments and of course great hospitality, throughout the tournament. 

Temperatures of -4C and bright sunshine, made for a fabulous day to be out on the ice.  Students, kids, and guests enjoyed fresh air, friendly competition, and lots of conversations while fishing for the big one! 

This yearly event gives these future Physicians an opportunity to speak with our local Physicians and find out what Rural Practice is all about.  Some are already interested in specific communities and we try and ensure they have a chance to meet with a physician who currently works in the area.
