Physiotherapy

Interlake-Eastern RHA physiotherapists are members of inter-disciplinary teams and work closely with physicians, occupational therapists, nurses and home care. As primary health care professionals, physiotherapists combine in-depth knowledge of how the body works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability. With your independence in mind, a physiotherapist’s goal is to restore, maintain and maximize your strength, function, movement and overall well-being.

Physiotherapists prescribe personalized therapeutic exercises, and provide essential education about the body, what keeps it from moving well, how to restore mobility and independence and how to avoid or prevent bodily harm.

Referrals

Individuals can access physiotherapy services when admitted to a health center, residing in a personal care home or from within the community.

If you are admitted to a health center or reside in a personal care home and would like to see a physiotherapist, your physician can request a consult by completing the Consult/Referral Form.

If you are in the community and would like to see a physiotherapist, you must be referred by another health care professional, such as your physician or nurse practitioner. If you have been referred by a physician outside the Interlake-Eastern RHA, please ensure your contact information is on the referral, then deliver it to the physiotherapy department at your closest hospital . Your closest hospital to you can be found on our Find Us page. If you have been referred by an Interlake-Eastern RHA physician simply wait for us to call you for an appointment. Home Care clients are referred by the Home Care Case Coordinator.
