Dietitians
A registered dietitian is the only regulated nutrition professional in Manitoba.
Like all regulated health professionals, registered dietitians undergo comprehensive and rigorous training, both on the job and in universities. Registered dietitians are passionate about food and translate the science of nutrition into terms everyone can understand to support healthy living for all Canadians. They are held accountable to the highest standards of education and ethics, which means they look beyond fads and gimmicks to deliver reliable, life-changing advice.
Registered dietitians use the most up-to-date science and translate it into practical guidance that you can use to make health lifestyle and food choices. Dietitians work in a variety of settings.
Did you know? The preferred spelling of the word “dieticians” is “dietitians” by the profession.

What kind of setting does a registered dietitian work in?
There are more than 12 registered dietitians working within all communities of the Interlake-Eastern Health Authority. They work in a variety of settings:
Primary Care and Community:
Registered dietitians offer individual nutrition sessions – working together to plan diet and lifestyle changes and healthier choices that are right for you. They work with you to embrace food, to incorporate your values and culture, to understand, and to enjoy it through each phase of your life. The advice and information dietitians provide is tailored to your personal needs and challenges, including taste, food skills, and accessibility. Dietitians also provide group education and support on topics of chronic disease management and healthy living. Healthy Baby/Our Time, Community Wellness events, Cooking Circles and programs such as Craving Change are just a few examples!
Acute Care and Long Term Care:
Clinical dietitians work in all hospitals and personal care homes in the region. They visit patients/residents individually, and participate in health care team meetings, such as rounds and care conferences. They complete nutrition assessments and help patients/residents to meet their nutrition goals through various health challenges. A regional dietitian develops the menus for all facilities, working with dietary and food services to ensure patient and resident nutritional needs are met through foods that are familiar, nutritious and all can enjoy.
