New physician in Beausejour: Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority is pleased to welcome Dr. Christopher Walmsley

The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority is pleased to announce Dr. Christopher Walmsley is now accepting new patients at the Beausejour Primary Health Care Centre  (1-151 1st Street South). Dr. Walmsley completed his medical studies at the University of Manitoba and has deep personal roots in the Interlake-Eastern region.

Born and raised in the town of Oakbank, Walmsley knows how important building relationships can be in small rural communities. His decision to work in Beausejour was spurred by his connection to the community and his understanding of the need for local physicians.

“I grew up in Oakbank and my wife in Hazelridge. Her extended family is from the Beausejour area. We have seen the need for physicians in the area for several years and thought it would be an ideal location to practice

His special interests in medicine are found in caring for people at all stages of life as well as acute care and emergency situations. When asked how he came to the practice of medicine, he said it was connecting with people and the wide variety of situations you can encounter on any given day that attracted him to medicine.

“The people of the region are what I enjoy most about my work. First and foremost, I enjoy building relationships with people and helping them as best I can. I also enjoy the challenge of medicine and the wide range of conditions and management strategies that can occur in the typical work day.”

When not working, he enjoys the classic Interlake outdoor activities like fishing, boating and camping. But when he needs to relax after a day at work, he makes sure to spend time with his wife and children.

“Most of the time, I find the best way to unwind from work is to spend time with my family. Work can become busy but my family grounds me and reminds me of what is important, which helps me to reduce stress and appreciate the things we have.”

Patients can make an appointment with Dr. Walmsley by calling the Beausejour Primary Health Centre at 204-268-4966. Please be sure to have your Manitoba Health card ready when calling to make an appointment.
