The Gimli Ultrasound Committee raises $54,000 for new point of care ultrasound machine

The emergency department and Cancer Care program doctors and patients at Gimli Community Health Centre will now benefit from the Gimli Ultrasound Committee’s generous donation of new point of care ultrasound machine.

Ultrasound equipment uses high frequency sound waves to capture live images from inside a patient’s body. Through the ultrasound technology the doctors can get a better sense of the next steps of care for their patients in Cancer Care and the emergency department to assist with diagnosis in emergency and IV access.

“More modern technology like this point of care ultrasound equipment is important for attracting doctors to our community,” says Jennifer Thompson, clinical team manager for Gimli Community Health Centre.

The Gimli Ultrasound Committee raised the total $54,000 needed to purchase the machine through fundraisers including 50/50 ticket sales, individual and business donations from the community. They started fundraising in November and by May, they had surpassed their initial $50,000 goal.

Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority thanks the Gimli Ultrasound Committee for spearheading the successful fundraising drive.
